In this episode, I am talking with a badass business owner all while she navigates the different phases of becoming a doctor. That’s right, a doctor! This convo is a fantastic representation of the humanness of communication. A calling out of empathy at the right time for maximum results. Using slightly different words, to change a whole message.

She is walking us through some of her experiences to help us show empathy in the most appropriate way. Sometimes we jump to saying “me too” when someone shares something hard with us. We think it will help the other person feel less alone in their struggles. Or we just have our own crap to unload. Although sometimes it's appropriate to share your own stories when someone shares theirs, as Lauren explains, not always. Sometimes it has the opposite effect.
She also helps us understand the difference between a Medical Student and a Medical Resident. Giving us a glimpse at the life and emotions of a doctor that I think some will be surprised to know. We have to remind ourselves that our doctors are also humans. Especially in times of pandemic! They certainly have expert knowledge/skills with the power to help us come closer to wellness. They still need things like dry shampoo and go through the emotions “impostor syndrome, as Lauren explains.
And Lauren’s creative outlet born as a stress reliever is pure beauty and fashion with a western flare. After you hear this episode you will be putting your name on a wait-list to see this local Rural Family Medicine doc. And be sure to check out and support her Blue Roan Wildrags business!
